Ingredients

For the chocolate batter
  • 1 box chocolate cake mix
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the creamy filling
  • 1 package (8 oz) cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup marshmallow fluff
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 container (8 oz) whipped topping
For the topping
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F and lightly grease a 9x13 baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the chocolate cake mix, eggs, vegetable oil, milk, and vanilla extract, blending until smooth.
  3. Pour half of the chocolate batter into the prepared baking dish.
Filling
  1. In another bowl, whip together the cream cheese, marshmallow fluff, and powdered sugar until creamy.
  2. Gently fold in the whipped topping until light and fluffy.
  3. Spread the marshmallow filling evenly over the chocolate batter.
Assembly and Baking
  1. Spoon the remaining chocolate batter on top.
  2. Sprinkle chocolate chips across the surface and drizzle melted butter over them.
  3. Bake for about 35-40 minutes, or until the center is mostly set.
  4. Allow it to cool slightly before serving warm.

Notes

For a richer flavor, add a pinch of espresso powder to the chocolate batter. Consider adding chopped nuts or using different cake mix flavors for variations. Letting the casserole rest after baking allows the flavors to meld beautifully.
