  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup diced apples
For the Crumble Topping
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup oats
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
For the Sweet Glaze
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt for the buns.
  3. In another bowl, combine the milk, melted butter, and egg. Mix well and then add to the dry ingredients. Stir until just combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, beat the cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth. Fold in the diced apples.
  5. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick. Cut into squares or circles.
  6. Place a spoonful of the cheesecake filling in the center of each piece of dough. Fold the edges over and seal it tightly.
  7. For the crumble topping, mix the flour, oats, brown sugar, melted butter, and cinnamon together until crumbly.
Baking
  1. Place each filled bun in the baking dish and sprinkle the crumble topping over them.
  2. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
Glazing
  1. Whisk the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla together until smooth. Drizzle over the warm buns once they are out of the oven.

Notes

Serve warm, fresh from the oven. They are great with coffee or tea, and you can add vanilla ice cream for an extra treat. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate for a week. Reheat in the microwave if needed.
