Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). On a lightly floured worktop, roll out each pie dough into a rectangle roughly 1/8 inch thick.
- Divide each rectangle into three equal squares and chill in the refrigerator.
- In a small bowl, blend together the cinnamon and sugar. Lay an apple on the center of each dough square, sprinkle with cinnamon sugar, and add a butter pat.
- Fold the dough corners over the apple, dabbing edges with water to ensure they stick together.
- Place the dumplings in two 9x13 baking dishes.
Cooking
- In a saucepan, combine the water, sugar, cinnamon, and butter. Bring the mixture to a boil, then pour the syrup around the dumplings.
- Bake for 40-45 minutes until the apples are tender.
- Let cool slightly and drizzle with the warm syrup before serving.
Notes
For a delightful twist, serve with whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. Warm them before serving.
