Ingredients
  

For the crust
  • 1 1/2 cups almond flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
For the filling
  • 3 large blood oranges Zested and juiced
  • 1 cup granulated sugar For filling
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract For filling
  • Powdered sugar For serving, optional

Method
 

Preparation of the crust
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, combine almond flour, sugar, melted butter, vanilla extract, and salt. Mix until crumbly.
  3. Press the mixture into the bottom and sides of a tart pan to form the crust.
  4. Bake for 12-15 minutes until lightly golden.
Preparation of the filling
  1. In another bowl, zest and juice the blood oranges. Strain the juice to remove any pulp.
  2. Whisk together the sugar, eggs, heavy cream, cornstarch, and orange juice in a separate bowl.
  3. Pour the filling into the baked crust.
  4. Bake for 25-30 minutes, until the filling is set.
  5. Allow to cool before serving.

Notes

Serve the Blood Orange Tart chilled or at room temperature. It pairs wonderfully with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. Make sure to fully cool the tart before serving to allow flavors to develop. Use fresh blood oranges for the best flavor.
