Ingredients
  

For the Cookies
  • 1 cup salted butter, softened Ensure butter is at room temperature
  • ½ cup powdered (confectioners) sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cardamom Use freshly ground for best flavor
  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup powdered (confectioners) sugar (for the glaze)
  • 1 tablespoon orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • Orange zest, to decorate (optional)

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Grind cardamom pods in a spice grinder until they form a fragrant powder.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together softened butter and powdered sugar until fluffy.
  3. Sprinkle in ground cardamom and all-purpose flour, mix until just combined.
  4. Wrap the dough in cling film and refrigerate for at least one hour.
  5. Dust counter with flour, roll out chilled dough, and cut into desired shapes.
  6. Place cut cookies on a baking tray and freeze for 15 minutes.
  7. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake cookies for 10-12 minutes until golden around edges.
Glaze
  1. In a separate bowl, mix powdered sugar, orange juice, and milk until smooth.
  2. Once cookies have cooled, drizzle orange glaze on top and garnish with orange zest.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week. If you're adventurous, mix in crushed nuts or chocolate chips!
