  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1/3 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract Can be substituted with almond extract.
  • 8 ounces frozen whipped topping, thawed Use pre-made for simplicity.
  • 1 pre-baked angel food cake, torn into 3/4-1 inch pieces Can substitute with sponge cake or ladyfingers.
  • 42 ounces cherry pie filling Fresh cherries can be used if cooked with sugar.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, combine the cream cheese and powdered sugar, beating until smooth.
  2. Add the whole milk and vanilla extract, beating until well blended.
  3. Gently fold in the thawed whipped topping until combined.
  4. In a serving dish, layer half of the angel food cake pieces, followed by half of the cherry pie filling and half of the cream mixture.
  5. Repeat the layering with the remaining ingredients.
  6. Allow the dessert to rest in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before serving.

Notes

Serve in elegant glass trifle bowls or simple dessert plates. A sprinkle of crushed graham crackers or a mint leaf enhances the presentation.
