  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk Can substitute with homemade buttermilk.
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips Optional for extra chocolatey touch.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Cream in the softened butter until the mixture becomes crumbly.
  4. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, and then add the vanilla extract.
  5. Gently stir in the buttermilk until well combined, adding chocolate chips if desired.
  6. Pour the batter into a greased baking dish and smooth it out.
Baking
  1. Bake for about 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick poked into the center comes out clean.
Serving
  1. Once cooled, cut into squares and dust with powdered sugar if desired. Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Notes

For a richer flavor, consider adding a splash of brewed coffee to the batter. Experiment with different add-ins like nuts or dried fruit.
