Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Roll out the bottom pie crust and place it in a 9-inch pie dish.
- In a large bowl, combine peeled, sliced apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Mix well.
- Pour the apple mixture into the pie crust and dot with small pieces of butter.
- Roll out the top pie crust and place it over the filling. Seal and crimp the edges. Cut slits for steam to escape.
Baking
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes.
- Reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for 35 to 45 minutes, until the apples are tender and the crust is golden brown.
Serving
- Let it cool before serving with vanilla ice cream or caramel, if desired.
Notes
To store, let it cool completely and then cover it tightly. Keeps in the refrigerator for up to 4 days, or can be frozen for up to 3 months. For a golden brown crust, brush the top with a bit of milk or egg wash before baking.
