Ingredients
  

For the Dumplings
  • 1 1/4 cups self-raising flour, sifted
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 30 g butter at room temperature
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence
  • 1/3 cup milk
For the Caramel Sauce
  • 30 g butter
  • 1 1/2 cups brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 1/2 cups water

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Place the flour and salt into a bowl.
  2. Rub in the butter until it resembles crumbs.
  3. Add the sugar, mixing it in well.
  4. Pour in the combined milk and vanilla, mixing until well incorporated.
Cooking
  1. In a large saucepan, combine all the caramel sauce ingredients and stir constantly until boiling.
  2. Reduce heat to a simmer and drop dollops of dumpling dough into the simmering sauce.
  3. Cover the pan and let cook for about 20 minutes.
  4. Serve warm and optionally top with ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

Ensure butter is at room temperature for easy mixing. Resting time after cooking allows for better flavor absorption. Feel free to add cinnamon or nutmeg for additional flavor.
