  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter, softened For the cake

  • 1.5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
For the Frosting
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1-2 tablespoons milk Adjust for desired consistency
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a heart shaped cake pan or arrange two round pans and one square pan to form a heart after baking.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then mix in vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Add dry ingredients to the wet mixture alternately with milk, mixing until just combined.
  6. Pour batter evenly into the prepared pan(s) and smooth the top.
Baking
  1. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  2. Cool completely before removing from the pan and assembling the heart shape if needed.
Frosting
  1. Beat frosting ingredients until smooth and fluffy, then spread evenly over the cake.

Notes

For a fun presentation, add edible confetti like crushed pistachios or freeze-dried raspberries. Keep the cake wrapped in plastic wrap or in an airtight container to maintain freshness.
