Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and prepare your 9-inch cake pans with cooking spray.
- Follow the instructions on the cake mix box, mixing in 1 cup of water, 3 egg whites, and 1/2 cup of vegetable oil.
- Split the cake batter into two bowls, mixing in 3 tablespoons of strawberry gelatin into one and 3 tablespoons of blue raspberry gelatin into the other.
Baking
- Pour each batter into separate cake pans and bake for around 25 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let the cakes cool before crumbling each into separate bowls.
Layering
- Layer blue cake crumbs and whipped topping in mason jars, finishing with whipped topping and patriotic sprinkles.
Notes
Keep the cake jars stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. You can freeze some layers for later use, just thaw in the fridge before serving. For extra flavor, consider adding a layer of fruit preserves.
