Ingredients
  

Dough Ingredients
  • 2 cups warm water Make sure the water is warm, not hot.
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast Can substitute with instant yeast.
  • 5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 tablespoons baking soda
Toppings (optional)
  • Sesame seeds, poppy seeds, or everything seasoning Customize with your favorite toppings.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Gradually add the yeast mixture and mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Let the dough rise in an oiled bowl covered with a cloth for 1 hour.
Cooking
  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into 10 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball and make a hole in the center.
  3. Boil water in a large pot and add baking soda. Boil each bagel for 1-2 minutes on each side, then place them on a baking sheet.
  4. Sprinkle with toppings if desired.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

Serve warm with cream cheese, butter, or jam. You can also make sandwiches with these bagels. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze for about 2 months.
