  • 4 tablespoons sugar
  • 4 tablespoons neutral oil
  • 4 tablespoons milk
  • 4 tablespoons anise liqueur (or orange juice) can substitute with orange juice
  • 1 piece juice of 1 orange or more milk adjust based on preference

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 350 grams self-rising flour
  • as needed oil for frying
  • as needed sugar for coating

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, crack the eggs and whisk them together with the sugar for a few minutes until the mixture turns light and frothy.
  2. Stir in the neutral oil, milk, anise liqueur (or orange juice), citrus zest, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Mix until all the ingredients are harmoniously combined.
  3. Gradually add the baking powder and gently incorporate the flour little by little until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough gently until it’s smooth, then let it rest for 15-20 minutes.
  4. Roll the rested dough into thin cylinders and join the ends to form rings.
Cooking
  1. Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat, then fry the donuts in batches until they turn a beautiful golden brown.
  2. Remove the donuts and let them drain on paper towels. While they’re warm, coat them in sugar.
