Ingredients

Dough Ingredients
  • 500 g Flour 000
  • 190 ml Milk At room temperature
  • 100 g Butter Softened
  • 3 medium Eggs At room temperature
  • 90 g Sugar
  • 8 g Powdered yeast
  • 200 g Chocolate chips or candied fruits Use either or both
  • Orange zest To taste
  • A pinch of salt
  • Butter For greasing

Method

Preparing the Dough
  1. Combine the flour with the powdered yeast in a spacious bowl.
  2. Add the sugar and softened butter, mixing until the mixture is well combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs until frothy.
  4. Add the eggs and milk to the flour mixture, along with a pinch of salt. Mix until a coherent dough forms.
  5. Dust the countertop with flour and turn out the dough, kneading gently until it becomes smooth.
  6. Fold in the orange zest and chocolate chips or candied fruits.
  7. Knead the dough until all ingredients are integrated, then cover with a cloth and let rise for about 2 hours.
  8. After one hour, gently fold the dough to encourage further rising.
Shaping and Baking
  1. Shape the dough into a round ball and place it in a greased cardboard mold.
  2. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees C.
  3. Bake for 35 minutes or until golden and puffed.
Cooling and Serving
  1. Cool the panettone before slicing.
  2. Serve plain or with butter or honey, and pair with coffee or dessert wine.

Notes

Ensure ingredients are at room temperature for best results. Be patient with the dough’s rise for a lighter bread. For variations, consider adding vanilla or using nuts instead of chocolate.
