Preparing the Dough
- In a small bowl, combine the warm water and sugar. Sprinkle the active dry yeast over the top, then let it sit for about 5–10 minutes until it's frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and garlic salt.
- Once the yeast is activated, add the melted butter and egg yolk to the flour mixture. Pour in the yeast mixture and stir until a dough forms.
- Knead for about 5 minutes on a floured surface until it's smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about an hour or until doubled in size.
Baking the Cheese Sticks
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Once risen, roll the dough into a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick. Cut into strips and place them on a greased baking sheet.
- Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and Parmesan cheese over the top.
- Bake for about 15–20 minutes or until golden brown and the cheese is bubbling.
- Serve hot with your favorite marinara sauce for dipping!
Notes
For added richness, brush the cheese sticks with a bit of melted garlic butter right before baking. Feel free to experiment with your favorite cheese blends; a bit of cheddar or pepper jack can add a nice twist!
