Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
- In a mixing bowl, cream the softened unsalted butter with granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Gradually fold in the all-purpose flour until just combined.
- Spread the buttery dough into a greased 9x13 inch baking pan.
Baking the Crust
- Bake in the oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the edges are golden.
Making the Filling
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, granulated sugar, fresh orange juice, orange zest, and vanilla extract until smooth.
Assembling and Baking
- Once the crust is golden, pour the orange filling over the hot crust.
- Return to the oven for another 20-25 minutes, until the center is set.
Cooling and Serving
- Allow the bars to cool in the pan for at least 10 minutes before cutting into squares.
- Dust with powdered sugar, if desired, before serving.
