Ingredients
  

Cake Base
  • 1 box cake mix 14.25 ounces
  • 3/4 cup cold chocolate milk
Cream Layer
  • 8 ounces cream cheese softened
  • 4 ounces mascarpone cheese softened
  • 14 ounces sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups cold heavy cream divided
Topping
  • 2 cups rice cereal or cocoa puffs
  • 2 ounces semi-sweet chocolate melted
  • 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 8 ounces dark chocolate bar chopped

Method
 

Baking the Base
  1. Prepare the cake mix according to package instructions in either an 11×7 oval baking dish or a trusty 13×9 pan. Let it cool to room temperature.
The Poking Ritual
  1. Grab a fork or skewer and poke holes all over your cooled cake.
Chocolate Milk Bath
  1. Pour cold chocolate milk evenly over the top of the cake.
Creamy Concoction
  1. In a separate bowl, beat together cream cheese, mascarpone, condensed milk, and vanilla until smooth.
  2. Slowly introduce 1 cup of heavy cream and continue beating until you reach medium peaks.
Layer It On
  1. Spread the creamy mixture over the cake and chill in the fridge for an hour.
Ganache Goodness
  1. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine chopped dark chocolate and the remaining cup of heavy cream, microwave for 1 minute, then whisk until smooth.
  2. Pour the ganache over the cake and refrigerate for another 1-2 hours.
Crispy Topping
  1. Melt semi-sweet chocolate in short bursts in the microwave, then toss it over rice cereal or cocoa puffs.
  2. Sprinkle cocoa powder and mix until well coated.
Final Flourish
  1. Spread the crispy chocolate mixture over the chilled cake and let it chill in the fridge until ready to serve.

Notes

For variety, try adding vanilla milk or coffee instead of chocolate milk. Top with sea salt for an extra burst of flavor.
