Ingredients

For the fries
  • 26 ounces frozen French fries Use your favorite brand.
For the cheese sauce
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk Warm slightly before using.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground white pepper
  • 2 teaspoons ranch seasoning powder Can be replaced with herbs.
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne powder Divided, adjust to taste.
  • 8 ounces white cheddar cheese Use freshly shredded for best results.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven or air fryer to 400°F.
  2. Arrange frozen fries in a single layer on a baking sheet or air fryer basket. Bake until golden brown according to package instructions.
Making the Cheese Sauce
  1. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter and whisk in flour until combined; cook for about 2 minutes.
  2. Gradually add milk while whisking continuously; stir in salt, pepper, ranch seasoning, and cayenne.
  3. Lower heat to medium-low and cook until thickened (about 5 minutes), then stir in shredded cheese until melted and creamy.
Serving
  1. Pour the cheese sauce over cooked fries and serve warm.

Notes

Don’t overcrowd the fries while baking for crispiness. Store leftover fries and cheese sauce separately for best results. Can add bacon or smoked sausage for heartiness.
