Ingredients

For the brownies
  • 1.5 cups salted butter, melted
  • 3 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 5 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1.5 cups flour
  • 0.75 teaspoon baking powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
For the frosting
  • 6 tablespoons salted butter, melted
  • 6 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons corn syrup
  • 0.5 cup milk
  • 4 cups powdered sugar

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9x13 inch baking dish with parchment paper and spray it lightly with cooking spray.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter, sugar, and cocoa powder using a hand mixer until smooth.
  3. Let the mixture sit for 3-4 minutes.
  4. Add the eggs and vanilla to the mixture and mix until well combined.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  6. Pour the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  8. Let the brownies cool for about 30 minutes.
Frosting
  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the melted butter, cocoa powder, and corn syrup until smooth.
  2. Add the milk and powdered sugar, whisking until you achieve a thick frosting.
  3. Spread the frosting over the cooled brownies and cut into squares.

Notes

For extra decadence, swirl in peanut butter or Nutella before baking. Add a sprinkle of coarse sea salt on top of the frosting for a sweet-savory delight. Reheat leftovers in the microwave for about 10 seconds.
