Ingredients
  

For the crust
  • 300 g all-purpose flour Can substitute with gluten-free flour if needed.
  • 80 g sugar
  • 4 g baking powder
  • 8 g vanilla sugar Alternatively, use vanilla extract.
  • 80 g butter Use unsalted for better control of salt content.
  • 1/2 unit lemon zest Freshly zested for best flavor.
  • 2 unit egg yolks
  • 1 unit whole egg
For the filling
  • 200 g chocolate bars Use your favorite type of chocolate.
  • 100 g chocolate chips For topping, can use dark or milk chocolate.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Gather all ingredients in one mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, vanilla sugar, butter, lemon zest, egg yolks, and whole egg.
  2. Knead the dough until soft and smooth, wrap in cling film, and let rest in the fridge for about an hour.
Assembly
  1. Divide the dough into two equal portions. Roll out one half and fit it into a 20×20 cm cake mold.
  2. Layer chocolate bars on top of the crust and roll out the second half of the dough to cover it, topping with chocolate chips.
Baking
  1. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (360°F) for about 25 minutes until golden brown.
  2. Allow to cool slightly before slicing into squares and serving warm.

Notes

This pie is delightful served warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days, or in the fridge for a week. Reheat in the oven for best results.
