Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking pan.
- In a microwave-safe bowl, melt together the baking chocolate and butter until smooth.
- In a large bowl, combine the eggs, sugar, and vanilla, beating until light and fluffy.
- Mix in the melted chocolate and butter, then fold in the flour and chopped walnuts.
- Spread the mixture evenly in the prepared pan and bake for about 35 minutes.
Frosting
- In a saucepan, combine the sugar and heavy cream, then simmer for 10 minutes total - 3 minutes initially and an additional 7 minutes.
- Stir in the baking chocolate and softened butter until melted and combined. Whisk in the vanilla.
- Cool the frosting in the refrigerator until it thickens, then frost the cooled brownies.
Serving
- Cut the brownies into 32 squares and serve on a plate or tray. They're excellent plain or with ice cream.
Notes
Playing with toppings such as a sprinkle of sea salt or adding peanut butter to the batter can enhance the brownies. Store covered at room temperature or refrigerate for up to a week. They freeze well in airtight containers.
