Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 pound ground beef (or ground turkey or chicken)
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce (Sweet Baby Ray’s Sweet and Spicy recommended)
  • 6 slices Texas Toast garlic bread
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

Method

Preparation
  1. Dice the onion into small pieces.
  2. In a large skillet, cook the onion and ground beef (or turkey/chicken) over medium-high heat until browned and the onion is soft, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Drain any excess grease and add the barbecue sauce to the skillet, stirring to coat the meat evenly.
Baking Garlic Bread
  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F and line a baking sheet with foil.
  2. Place the frozen garlic bread on the sheet and bake for 5-8 minutes until lightly toasted.
Assembly
  1. Remove the garlic bread from the oven and spoon the sloppy joe mixture onto each slice.
  2. Top with shredded cheddar cheese.
  3. Return to the oven and bake until the cheese is melted, about 2-3 minutes.
  4. Serve immediately.

Notes

If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. Reheat in the oven for a few minutes to restore crispiness. For an extra kick, consider adding spices such as paprika or cayenne pepper to the meat mixture. Experiment with cheese combinations for different flavors.
