Ingredients

Dough and Egg Wash
  • 1 batch homemade pizza dough You can also use store-bought dough.
  • 1 large egg For egg wash
Filling Ingredients
  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup sliced pepperoni
  • 1/2 cup sliced bell peppers
  • 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • to taste Italian seasoning Optional, for added flavor.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the pizza dough into a rectangle.
  3. Spread the marinara sauce over the dough, leaving a border around the edges.
  4. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella evenly on top of the sauce.
  5. Layer the sliced pepperoni, bell peppers, and mushrooms on top, and finish with Parmesan cheese.
  6. If desired, sprinkle Italian seasoning over the filling.
  7. Roll the dough tightly from one end to the other and pinch the edges to seal.
Baking
  1. Place the Stromboli seam side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  2. Brush the top with the beaten egg.
  3. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  4. Allow to cool slightly before slicing.

Notes

Allowing the dough to rest makes it easier to roll. Experiment with fillings like spinach or different cheeses. For extra flavor, sprinkle coarse sea salt on top before baking.
